Open Dental Software
In the CareNotes app, go to Settings → Dental Software. Set the software to Open Dental.
Start integration Premium
Request your Open Dental key.
Open Dental connects through its own API. First turn on Linked in the CareNotes app and request your Premium key. CareNotes emails the API code after that key is generated. Then you paste it into Open Dental.

In the CareNotes app
Turn on Linked, then request the key.
Use the latest CareNotes app on your iPhone. CareNotes Premium needs to be paid before the request button appears. Update the app from the App Store before you start.

Set the toggle to Linked
The control under Dental Software has two sides: Linked and Unlinked. Tap Linked.
If Premium is not paid yet, the app asks you to complete payment and returns the toggle to Unlinked. Finish Premium, then set Linked again. When payment is done, the status line reads Current Status: Payment Completed and Your payment has been processed.

Tap Request CareNotes Premium Key
With Linked on and payment completed, tap the blue-to-green button Request CareNotes Premium Key. Tap it once.
That message means the request is in. CareNotes support sees it and generates your Open Dental key. Leave the toggle on Linked.

Wait for the welcome email
After the key is generated, CareNotes emails you. The subject is Welcome to CareNotes Premium. Inside is your API code, the code you will paste into Open Dental. Allow up to one business day, the same timing the app shows.
The email goes to the address on your CareNotes account. Check spam if it is not in the inbox. Still missing after a business day? Contact us and we will resend the API code.

Paste the API code into Open Dental
Open that email on the computer that runs Open Dental, then follow the picture-by-picture steps: Setup → Advanced Setup → API, Add Key, and paste the API code. There is no CareNotes Agent to install.
Common questions
I do not see Request CareNotes Premium Key
The button shows when three things are true: Dental Software is Open Dental, the toggle is Linked, and the status says Payment Completed. If the status says Awaiting Payment, finish Premium first. If the status already says Key Generated, your key is ready and the button is gone on purpose. Tap the key in that same screen to copy it, then continue to the setup guide.
How long until the email arrives?
Allow up to one business day after you tap Request CareNotes Premium Key. The app shows that same line while the key is being generated. The email is sent once the key exists.
Do I install anything on the Open Dental computer?
No Agent and no installer. After the welcome email arrives, you paste the API code into Open Dental under Setup → Advanced Setup → API. Those pictures are on the integration guide.
What happens once Open Dental accepts the key?
Home in CareNotes shows today’s schedule from Open Dental. After you finish a note, Send to Open Dental files it in that patient’s chart.
